Coney Bow biography & CV

Based in the South of France, Coney Bow is an international cabaret and burlesque artist with a passion for dance history and an addiction to chair dance. A perfectionist always ready to explore new territories, she plays with concepts and cultural references to create retro themed acts, playful portraits of graceful spirited women.

When she is not on stage Coney shares her passion through regular classes, mentoring programs, workshops and themed events. She is the artistic director of the French burlesque & retro cabaret company Boardwalk Factory and co-produces the shows Les Cabarets Mystère with Zaza Poppin.

A real dance nerd, Coney loves every aspect of this art form, from performing to choreographing, teaching, directing or producing.

Coney Bow training biography

The legend says that Coney Bow was dancing before she even knew how to walk. She took her first dance class at age seven in her native southern France and has been dancing ever since. She has trained in jazz, contemporary, ballet, musical theatre, lindy hop, vintage jazz, precision dancing, body alignment and Pilates in Montpellier, Paris and New York and added latin to her repertoire when she moved to New Zealand. Coney has been on stage since she was 10 as part of a retro themed youth troupe and became a professional dancer for French revues when she turned 18.

Coney Bow had her first glimpse of Burlesque in Coney Island, New York in 2004. But it's only when she moved to New Zealand that she took her first burlesque lessons in 2008 and dove into the local scene. Fast forward 12 years, Coney has attended workshops and private classes with some of the best in the business (Dirty Martini, Ginger Valentine, Bazuka Joe, Ray Gunn, Kitten & Lou to name a few) and has performed in burlesque and retro events all around Europe, North America and Australasia. She has won the national burlesque competition Grand Tease New Zealand in 2016, was a featured artist at the Lyon Retro Tease Festival 2019 and was crowned Master of Masters at Burlypicks France 2020.

Coney Bow teaching biography

When she is not performing Coney is an accomplished dance, cabaret and wellness instructor. She has trained in body alignment in New York, studied a Masters in dance in Paris and has completed a physical teacher diploma and a Pilates instructor certification in the south of France.

Coney has been teaching cabaret and retro styles since 2006 and has been offering mentoring programs for the past 6 years. She has run her workshops and classes in New Zealand, Canada, Croatia, Italy and France, she was a guest instructor at Lille University in 2019, and was nominated “Favourite Mentor in New Zealand” at the Golden Garters 2017. Coney was a presenter at BurlyCon 2019 and 2020 teaching her “Warm Up 101”, “This is not a chair” and “Body Element: a journey through joint mobility” workshops.

Coney thrives on knowledge sharing and community development. Since she moved back to France in 2017 she has been offering regular classes and workshops with the non profit company Boardwalk Factory, in various cities in the South of France.

Coney Bow director & producer biography

Following her teenage dream of one day working in the dance industry, Coney has studied a Masters in performing arts in Paris with a major in dance. There she honed her skills in show production, choreography and dance history, focusing her work on cabaret and vintage musicals.

Coney has built most of her career in New Zealand where she lived from 2006 to 2017. She started as a choreographer for the cabaret production company Big Top (2008-2012) and moved on to create her own company Pineapple Productions (2011-2016) specialised in cabaret and retro themed shows. With Pineapple she produced a dozen sold out shows and was the artistic director for the troupes Oh Mes Ananas and A Slice of Pineapple winner of the "Favourite Troupe or Duo" Award at the Golden Garters 2014 and 2015. Coney still has a foot in the kiwi cabaret industry, choreographing bespoke routines for the retro showgirl troupe The Roaring Antoinettes since 2016. In 2019 the Antoinettes won the national group competition “Bling it on” and the “Favourite Troupe or Duo” Golden Garter Award.

Now back in France, Coney is the artistic director at Boardwalk Factory, running cabaret open stages in Montpellier, choreographing for the troupe Les Gigolettes and co-producing the shows Les Cabarets Mystère with Zaza Poppin.

Grand Tease Hamilton Heat 2015 - Mumpty Style

"In my head, I dance like Coney Bow. Sadly, that is far from reality, but if dreams were real, then that's how Mumpty would roll – or dance, actually. Huge shout-out to this gorgeous woman; first time I've seen her perform IRL and sign me up for more is all I can say! She really is, quite simply, superb! And for that reason, I was thrilled to bits when she received the wildcard vote and will be dancing her little sox off once again at the finale of The Grand Tease in Christchurch. Coney took out the "Dazzling Dancer" award, and my god – she so is!"

Ottawa Burlesque Festival 2014 - A Life In Glitter

"Coney Bow's jazz piece was smooth as butter. Without leaving her chair, she managed to perform one of the sexiest dances of the evening. It struck me as ballet in situ – absolutely beautiful."
